McConnell Family Boathouse: A World-Class Home for Notre Dame Rowing
A program-changing moment for University of Notre Dame rowing occurred in early December of 2015, as the state-of-the-art McConnell Family Boathouse was completed along the St. Joseph River adjacent to the University of Notre Dame campus.
The nearly 15,000-square-foot facility provides the Irish with an impressive home that rivals the top collegiate programs in the country, serving as the daily hub where our athletes train, gather, and build a culture of excellence.
Inside the Facility
Prime Location: Situated just 1.5 miles south of campus on the St. Joseph River, the boathouse offers immediate access to prime water conditions while remaining an easy commute for students balancing demanding class schedules.
The Boat Bays: Climate-controlled, high-capacity bays house our elite fleet of Empacher and Hudson racing shells and oars, ensuring our crews always have the equipment they need to hunt speed.
Advanced Training Spaces: Equipped with dedicated indoor ergometer rooms, state-of-the-art training hardware, and video review setups, the facility allows our athletes to dial in their technique year-round—through the peak of fall and spring seasons and the grit of indoor winter training.
Team and Locker Facilities: Beyond physical training, the boathouse features team meeting rooms, locker facilities, and common areas designed to foster team unity. For our student-athletes, it quickly transitions from a training center into a second home on campus.
